Salamander Hideaway is truly that, a get away from it all kind of place.  We get many different types of people here,  those seeking adventure and those seeking peace and quiet on the beach with no phones, no TVs  lots of sand and beach and 80 degree Caribbean water!

We are located about 12 miles north of San Pedro, the furthest north of any resort on Ambergris Caye.   A little further and we would be in Mexico.  This remote aspect makes a few things more difficult but very worth it. Our electricity is solar and wind powered with a back up generator,  the food must be flown in each week,  we pay a little more to our guides to encourage them to explore a little farther.

See more photos of the lodge after you close this overlay window and find the links to the right.

The compound consist of 11 single room , thatched roof cabanas with 2 jungle tower cabanas which have a second story and hence an extra room. The main lodge building houses the dining room, bar, internet station and reading room.  Each cabana is directly  looking at the Caribbean.

The food at Salamander is prepared by Hans and Elsa the managers of the resort.  Hans was the manager of a famous fishing lodge before moving to the Salamander and that is how we met.  Since the food is flown in each week we have a constant supply of produce and fruit with a variety of meats we can add to the seafood found off our front door.  Guests are welcome  and actually encouraged to catch their evening meal out near the reef.  Or for those catch and release fans it is always easy to choose from one of the specials or many standard menu items.

To the left you can see an example of a lunch menu.  If you have any particular dietary restrictions be sure to let us know right away so we can be have time to prepare.  There is no corner store and our food will be purchased well ahead of time.

The Salamander bar is equipped with most liquors, a small selection of wines, Belikin beer, and some great fruit smoothies.  A margarita or a papaya smoothie after a day on the water ( or a day in the hammock) tastes sooo good here.

The rooms are simple with every thing you need.  There is a king bed that can be separated into 2 single beds depending on the needs of your group.  There is a complete bathroom with sink toilet and shower in each room.  Be forewarned it is entirely open from the bedroom into the bathroom.  As you look at the interior picture on the left  the half walls you see behind the bed ( set up as a king in this picture) "separate" the bathroom from the bed.  The mattresses are very comfortable and there is 24 hour electricity to run a fan if the Caribbean tradewinds don't do the trick.

Each cabana measures approximately 12 x 20 feet.  The layout of the  jungle towers is similar with a futon bed and bathroom on the main floor and a king bed on the top floor.  The views from the top floor are spectacular whether you look over the jungle or out to the Caribbean.

The main building is where the Salamander bar and restaurant are located. Here is where you will get all your meals.  You can eat indoors or on the verandah as you prefer.  For those of you an an all day adventure like fishing will receive a boxed lunch to take with you on the water. If you are headed out early in the morning, make sure you put the order in the evening before your trip.
