We provide this information as a research tool for our clients, to help get a feel for what a particular guide is like. We can give you our input as well. You are free to book directly with the guide or through us, the price will be the same either way, but we only get a small commission from the guide when you book through us. Alan Simmons has been a full time professional Fly Fishing Guide for 27 years out of Turangi on the shores of Lake Taupo in the North Island. Alan specialises in New Zealand-wide tours during the summer, Wilderness helicopter fly fishing campouts, and Tongariro River steelhead in the winter. Alan has all the equipment and expertise to make your wilderness dry fly trip a wonderful experience, also undertakes Saltwater Fly expeditions. Clients stay in purpose built guest accommodation on his 10 acre rural farmlet with it's boundary directly to the Tongariro river.

Brett Cameron
I was born in 1961 and brought up on a farm. After 25 years milking cows I decided a change was needed so I hung up my gumboots to make a career as a fly fishing guide here inTaupo. I have fished my whole life both locally and internationally. and caught everything from trout to marlin. I have a passion for fly fishing, especially New Zealands bush clad streams and rivers. I love to explore new rivers, not knowing what is around the next bend. There is nothing better than finding that perfect run or pool for the first time and catching that fish of a lifetime. I tie my own flies, have my own patterns and love showing people just what our fly fishing is all about. My best mate 'Briggs' (chocolate labrador) accompanies me and many of my clients on our fishing adventures. I am the owner/operator of Central Plateau Fishing, member of CD's Pro network team, first aid certified and a qualified skipper. I offer a full range of guiding opportunities from half to multi day packages.

Chris Jolly owns and operates Chris Jolly Outdoors based at Lake Taupo. Chris has more than 25 years in this business and operates five large charter boats, a fly fishing operation, a helicopter company used for the fly in trips and a hunting operation, his vast experience is your guarantee.
Craig Farrar
Craig Farrar of Dream Trout New Zealand is based in Taupo and guides the greater Central North Island. A professional fishing guide since 2002 and a member of the New Zealand fly fishing team in 2006 and 2008. Craig specializing in upstream nymph and dry fly fishing in rivers and streams. Operating both summer and winter with single day and multi day trips available. Back country accommodation is available on overnight and multi day trips between October and June. David Wood is based in the central North Island. This location gives him a wide range of opportunities for his clients. From fishing the multitude of rivers that feed Lake Taupo with it s large Steelhead Rainbows and unbelievable river run Browns, to Mountain river and stream fishing in the Kaimaniwa s, Urewera s and Kaweka s. Ian Ruthven
Ian started fly-fishing when he was about 9 years old (1964) with his grand father in the South Island of New Zealand. There he learned the skills required to catch some of those very elusive large southern browns. He moved to the North Island to gain a Diploma in Emergency Ambulance care and worked for nine years as an Advanced Care Ambulance Paramedic. In 1983 'Wilderness Adventures' (now called Absolutely Angling) was born eventually Ian moved to continue the business based out of Taupo where he can now offer outstanding packages for all types of fishing adventures.Having fished and explored the North Island for some 30 years, Ian has an intimate knowledge of most of the Central North Island Rivers and many on the East Coast of the North Island. Ian has been guiding and instructing people in the outdoors for over 25 years and is now one of New Zealand s most skilled and qualified guides. Paddy Clark
Paddy Clark NZ Flyfishing operates from out of Taupo but fishes throughout the Central North Island, including the watersheds within the Urewera, Kaweka, Kaimanawa, Ruahine and King Country. Paddy specilises in classic upstream dry fly and nymph fishing to individually targeted rainbow and brown trout. Waters fished can be, true wilderness, back country, or lowland streams and a huge effort is made to provide secluded fishing. . Transport is by 4 wd or helicopter. Peter has been guiding in the Central North island region for over 25 years. He has been based in Turangi on the banks of the Tongariro River. Peter offered the full range of guided fly fishing services, from fishing the regions lakes, the local rivers including the Tongariro River through to wilderness helicopter trips. Peter Fordham
Peter Fordham lives in Taupo on New Zealands North Island. He has been flyfishing fifty years and a trout fishing guide and instructor for twelve years. In winter he guides the rivers and streams in the Taupo district. Half the summer dryfly season is now helicopter based and the other half a combination of single and multiday road trips by airconditioned Landcruiser. On all trips lunch, equipment, tuition and photography are included. Helifishing is an extra. A Satelite phone is carried on all remote trips.
Ross Hamilton
Ross Hamilton of Dream Streams Fly Fishing is co - owner of Roanoke Lodge with his wife Christine and is based at Waitetoko, approximately 14km north of Turangi. Ross has been a professional fly fishing guide for the past fifteen years and specializes in summer dry fly wilderness fishing either by helicopter or 4x4, and in winter fishing the runs of Browns and Rainbows in the Taupo rivers. Quality equipment is always provided if required. Ross and Christine have a guest return rate of about 55% - please ask for references from anglers from all around the world!
Steve Yerex
Steve Yerex has been fly fishing in the Central North Island for fifteen years. Based in Taupo, he specialises in Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout fly fishing, both summer dry fly action and winter steelhead runs. He is able to provide back country heli fishing, and as a senior trip leader single or multi-day raft fishing trips, as well as wade fishing. He can provide riverside accommodation on the Tauranga-Taupo River, and can supply all equipment as needed. Beginners and knowledgeable fisherman alike will enjoy the experience.

Tim is Tongariro Lodge's head guide. Tim has guided for 22 years in the central North Island and Taupo fishery. Prior to this time Tim worked in a fly fishing shop in Turangi. Will Kemp has been a professional fly fishing guide based in Turangi for the last four years. He has fished the area since he was a child and has an intimate knowledge and respect for the rivers of the Central North Island. Will specialises in river fishing. In summer, his back-country headwater fishing trips, using four wheel drive truck or quad bike for access, will give you an insight into the Central North Islands finest sight fishing for solid Browns and Rainbows.
